Becca Kinzer is an American writer of romantic comedies. She writes light-hearted contemporary romances. She is best known for her novels Dear Henry, Love Edith and A Very Merry Matchup (2025). Dear Henry, Love Edith won the Carol Award.
Becca Kinzer grew up in Kewanee, Illinois. She has described it as the 'Hog Capital of the World'. She received a journal for Christmas in Year 3. She later said that she “hasn’t stopped writing since”. Reading and films from an early age shaped her interests. She named Jimmy Stewart as her favourite actor and recalled crying when he died.
Kinzer later trained as a nurse. She began her career at a regional burns centre. She worked there for seven years and then moved to the intensive care units. Her work included trauma, surgery, neurology, and stroke care. She said her choice of career was shaped by a television miniseries, where “the main hero eventually marries a nurse.”
In 2010, she travelled by tandem bicycle from Nashville to Baton Rouge. She completed the trip with her boyfriend at the time, who is now her husband. However, she later noted differing views on future cycling plans. “He dreams,” she said, “that someday we’ll go coast to coast.” She added that she hopes he forgets that idea.
Her debut novel, Dear Henry, Love Edith (2023), brought early attention. The book won the 2024 Carol Award for debut novel. It established her as a writer of clean romantic comedy. She has since published multiple novels in the same genre.
In 2025, Kinzer published A Very Merry Matchup (2025). The book is a standalone Christmas romance. It follows Ivy West, a travel nurse with strong matchmaking habits. Ivy believes she knows what type of future partner she wants. She meets Beau Wall, a minor league baseball player, while he is hospitalised. Ivy attempts to match him with a friend instead.
The story moves to Iowa during the Christmas season. Ivy learns that her plans have failed. Her friend is engaged, but not to Beau. Beau, supported by his family, pursues Ivy. The book centres on family pressure and revised expectations.
Kinzer lives in Springfield, Illinois. She lives with her husband and two children. She has said, “I love making people laugh.”
