10:3-6 Paul rebuts the use of worldly tactics in the church. The world relies on certain things for authority: education, status, personal connections, oratorical skill, and so forth. The church, however, uses different “weapons.” The only authoritative source of doctrine is the Word of God, so Paul battles against all arguments and pretensions that oppose God’s truth. Paul understands

that scripture is the basis for Christian living. The final test of any proposed “truth” is whether or not it results in obeying Christ’s commands. If the Corinthian believers learned to be more diligent and obedient, then Paul would be better able to confront the acts of disobedience being committed by the false apostles.
