When the threats are taken as ordinary losses, there is removal of much of psychological needs for confirmation biases. On the other hand, when traders feel the need to win, they are more likely to cling to information that supports their positions. Accepting the possibility that loses are likely to occur enables such traders to view their opinions or positions as mere hypotheses rather than facts supported by current market data.
