Cebu was discovered in 1521 by the Spanish sailor Ferdinand Magellan. It was an affluent society in those times, happy and full of life and pleasure. The Spanish stayed for almost 500 years. After Dictator Marcos left the Philippines Cebu woke up and took its chance. In less than 25 years the island was turned into an economic powerhouse based on a service economy. Direct flights to many Asian destinations turned Cebu into a first class tourist destination. In twenty years’ time almost 200 hotels and beach resorts were built in the province. Challenging golf courses, excellent dive sites and beautiful beaches were the driving force. Cebu’s nice weather (there are no typhoons in Cebu), excellent tourist facilities and very low price levels are making Cebu a paradise to be. Don’t miss it!
